Horse Commission

This portrait went to it’s new home today.  It was my first horse in oil, used 2 reference photos 1 for the pose the other for the colours.  I changed the background to make the grey pop out more so had to tweek the colours a little to reflect the darker background.  A dappled grey is definitely a challenge to paint but enjoyable!

Bespoke Notebook Commission

Spent today setting up my graphics tablet and having a doodle AKA Tinkering with the Tablet …for testing purposes (see earlier post) and then doing a one-off bespoke notebook.

White and blue acrylic with black embossing bespoke Supernatural notebook

Tried embossing a few days ago on a bookworm notebook and didn’t like the result, maybe the ink pen I was using as it was drying to quickly on the absorbent paper, changed the ink and I’m happy with how this 1 turned out.

Tomorrow’s plan is a quick sculpt AND progress on a teddy miniature oil painting… planning on reworking the Christmas 1 that’s currently at ‘the ugly phase’. But none of that is going to happen unless I go to sleep now!

Gamvar & Comics

Gamvar Varnishing

I’m varnishing a horse commission today as it’s completely dry (always a good thing!) and ready for a 1st coat.

I’m using Gamvar as this gives a nice finish and allows a much shorter application period* than other varnish as it’s breathable.

Horse Portrait Update

Currently at The “How the Hell do I pass at being a portrait artist? This looks like a hippo a 5 year old would paint” stage. …I have 1 or 2 per portrait Keep Calm & Carry On!

Meanwhile babysitting craft day was a success.

New Canvas

My 2nd canvas has arrived, Loxley you never fail me!   Needs a little stretch then it’s paint to canvas …after a cuppa.

There’s only going to be a few initial WIP’s as this is for a client wanting a birthday gift, highly doubt the recipient will see this blog (does anybody? 😂 ) but I’ll wait a few months.
